Music Vacancies

This week I have been trying to concentrate on finding a vacancy within the industry and as one would expect it has been very hard to try and find something. This week I only managed to find a couple of vacancies that I felt I was capable of doing but also that appealed to me.

The first vacancy I applied for was for a sales executive for a magazine called IMPACT, it is the’ MPA’s quarterly publication for the international music publication Industry’. It seemed quite interesting and so again I thought why not try hey.

The second vacancy I applied to was a project called ‘House Project’ who are looking for singers. I found this vacancy on the hallo site.(www.hallondon.co.uk) I’m was not expecting to hear anything this week of course but I do tend to think, I wonder whether I will receive a reply. So all I can do with that is wait and see.

Anyway thanks for reading and have a great week! :)

Complaining?

Once again another hard week in trying to find work within the music business, even getting that foot in the door. However saying that I‘ve thoroughly enjoyed my practices this week in the band which I’m in (accept I have to drive about an hour and half to get there every week. Now that’s commitment). I’m not really complaining as I do love it, I suppose certain sacrifices you have to make and if it means I have to drive a little bit out of my way then that’s fine, at least I get to do something that I enjoy.
The other part of this week I have been concentrating on my own music. I thought it was about time to write a couple more songs, and so that is exactly what I did.

Even though once again I have searched more wonderful careers in this field and not much has come out of my hours of research, I have found that writing my music again extremely therapeutic. I know that might come across a little cheesy. It’s true though, I feel so much better for getting some new material down.

Anyway another week ahead of more research and hopefully some more composing!

Have a great week and thanks for reading.

Focus

Again another week gone and it has been a busy one. This week I have been concentrating on trying to find out how to publish my music (on paper). Its hard as from the research that I have done so far you need to have at least a basic understanding of music theory and how to write it in order to get it down on paper. I have written music before but that is one of my challenges theory! It’s hard work and it has never been my strong point. Whilst looking into publishing music even though you can find software to help you an understanding of how to write music is important. So I’m still looking into that at the moment.

This weekend has been great as I have been away at a youth even where I helped with the music side of things. It was all voluntary (was to do with the Salvation Army). Anyway It was great as this weekend when I was teaching some songs I did not use any instrumentation. Everyone felt quite vulnerable at the beginning as they can hide away behind the sound of instruments. But I wanted the youth to see that voices can blend well without the help of an instrument and I find that the message that you are singing comes across more clearly and you are more focused as there is nothing to distract you. Part of the weekend for me was to get the youth thinking about music differently, but most of all to concentrate on the lyrical content. I think I managed to achieve as everyone was very focused.

It was a fun and fulfilling weekend, and being able to share what I can do with music with others is a huge high. I believe if we have a talent to share it with others and not just keep it for ourselves.

Have a great week, and thanks for reading.

Not Much to Say

This past week has been rather challenging in the sense that I have been so busy with normal day to day life that on the music front not much has been done. Its scary how time flies and all of a sudden a week goes by without you realising.

As for hearing back on vacancies I have applied to once again it’s the same old story, I’ve had no feedback. This has been quite disheartening. It’s an emotion that I seem to go through on a regular basis, and at the same time I am trying to not let it get at me.

So this week my aim is to try and find something positive, and to try and not let these situations get me down. In a way they only make me want to strive for more!

Have a great Week. Thanks for reading.

Moving Forward

This week has yet again been solid practicing for the gig that I had on Friday I had my gig at High Barn. I thought the performance I gave went well. Of course I am my own worst critic and I know I could have done better but the audience seemed to enjoy it which is the most important thing! I had a band backing me, all who are amazing musicians you can find them on www.myspace.com/beanstalkstu and www.myspace.com/blacktopharrison. Please check these guys out as they really are good, I am very lucky to know people who are willing to help me.

On the evening of the gig though after I had performed the two guys that were after me blew my mind away. They were very professional and the way in which they could control their voices, they were simply outstanding and in a completely different league. It put some things into perspective for me and me want to be even better. It’s a good thing I think to try and strive for. Not being like these guys I saw but believing in yourself. That evening was definitely fun but also very thought provoking for myself.

Then I had received an e-mail finally from a vacancy I had applied too a couple of weeks ago. It was for the R&B Lyricist, I’ve been asked to send in a song for a girl group and it will be considered for their first single. So we shall see what happens with that, my music might not be what they are necessarily looking for, but who knows right, you never know unless you try.

Have a great week.

Happy Easter Everyone!

This week has been literally filled with band rehearsals and feeling nervous as my gig is coming up next Friday. So practicing has been my main priority this week.
Finally I have finished recording my E.P. I’m just getting all the labels sorted. Boring as that might seem, it’s been hard work getting the covers designed and it’s been a rush to get the labels done.

I have heard back from one of the places that I sent my CV too which was prudence and rocket pr. It was a no thank you, which is ok as the position was for a national plugger and I have no experience in that area but I thought why not give it a go.
But hey, keep trying right!

Happy Easter and thanks for reading.

Job Search

This week has been completely crazy at work and also trying to find the time to finish recording my E.P which is nearly there! But hey I have still managed to find the time to apply once again for more jobs within the music industry.

This week I have applied for an office co-ordinaters job with the Brotherhood Media company. This job requires office skills (which I now have) and also a general knowledge of the music industry and scene. So I thought hey it’s worth a try. The second Job which I have applied to is a radio and TV promotions company, they are looking for a professional national radio plugger (if my guess is right a radio plugger is someone that promotes) I have not really had any experience in this area apart from trying to promote myself. What’s the worst that can happen, I just wont hear from them or it will be a simple No, which I’ve had a few of.

So there you go, that’s me for the week and fingers crossed I might hear something from some other places I have applied too within the past few weeks!?

Thanks for reading and have a great week.

Keep Going!

Once again the week just flies by. So this week I managed to find a singing job and its full time. Not exactly sure what is involved or what is to be expected. All I know is that it’s permanent; however I have to get myself into gear and call them so that I know where to send my details too. Again this week has been hard for me in just trying to find something that I think is worth while applying too. I found myself lucky stumbling across this vacancy.

I have also been putting the finishing touches on my new E.P. which is in the process of being recorded. It’s quite exciting as I love bringing an idea to life, and I have some wonderful friends that help me to make this a reality. So if anything has been fruitful this week it’s the fact that my E.P. is coming together. My aim is to have the E.P. ready by the time of my gig which is at the end of the month, so fingers crossed.
Anyway have a great week and thanks for reading.

Another Week

This week has been so crazy as in I’ve had hardly anytime to myself so I really don’t have that much to write about. I have still not heard back from most of the places I have written too during the past few weeks and I have found it hard trying to find work in this sector. Well I should say work that appeals to me.

Fortunately a lovely friend of mine stumbled across a job vacancy for an R&B Song Writer required on a professional basis and its full time. So I have sent my C.V. by email to marsha458@hotmail.co.uk there is however an address to anyone who is interested in sending in an application too, Marsha Grant at Atlantis Music Entertainment, Flat 22, Rabbits Road, London, E12 5HZ, this is for anyone who might be interested in applying but the closing date is the 31st March.

Well I hope you all have a great week, and thanks for reading.

Music Venues or Not?

It’s all going a bit wrong this week. I found out that a couple of my e-mail addresses were incorrect, but to my surprise someone actually wrote back to me letting me know about my error and pointed me in the right direction, which never happens. I had written to a venue in Essex in order to obtain a gig and I had written to the people who just take pictures of the bands and load them onto this particular website. Ooops!

I started again and this week, for me it was all about trying to achieve more gigs. My starting place the internet as always and I have written to a few places asking about how to go about getting a gig at their venue. One place I wrote to is a venue called Hermit in Brentwood (Hermit@Artswork.co.uk) and Bush Hall (notes@bushhallmusic.co.uk )

Also this week I have sent my Demo to The Betsey Trotwood it is one of London’s smallest venues, it plays Live Music 6 nights a week. I’ve covered all my areas as I’ve posted a demo and e-mailed them with my website and myspace details. Their address, for anyone else who might be interested in sending your demos to them: Plum Promotions, 56b Farrington Road, London, EC1R 3BL. What’s great about this place is that they host demo workshops and will help support bands with flyers and posters. To check out their website go to www.plummisic.com So now all I have to do is wait and see what the outcome will be.
