This week I have been trying to concentrate on finding a vacancy within the industry and as one would expect it has been very hard to try and find something. This week I only managed to find a couple of vacancies that I felt I was capable of doing but also that appealed to me.

The first vacancy I applied for was for a sales executive for a magazine called IMPACT, it is the’ MPA’s quarterly publication for the international music publication Industry’. It seemed quite interesting and so again I thought why not try hey.

The second vacancy I applied to was a project called ‘House Project’ who are looking for singers. I found this vacancy on the hallo site.(www.hallondon.co.uk) I’m was not expecting to hear anything this week of course but I do tend to think, I wonder whether I will receive a reply. So all I can do with that is wait and see.

Anyway thanks for reading and have a great week!

I’ve been soooooo busy! I’m through to live and unsigned the nationwide competition. People get really excited and take family, friends, next doors cat etc etc and sometimes it counts when its down to a vote as they have loads of support, but my mam always says you its never about winning as I don’t really like cheesy competitions, talent shows etc even though I’ve done loads, she always says you never know who is sat in the audience and you never see the winner again anyway, (which normally is true) I have won all sorts but don’t take anything too seriously, anyhow I was in an interview for college I want to go to when my mother took a call from a guy who thought I sang brilliantly and he wanted me to be in another competition www.musicmeanslife.com and would I like to go to St. James park football ground, too right! So I did. Apparently my mother had entered in a c.d. of mine and from 3,000 I’m now in the last 24 of this competition, its a good cause which is to raise money for teenagers with cancer for vital equipment for the R.V.I hospital in Newcastle, so its teenagers helping teenagers I love good causes I’ve done a few, I met lots of celebrities including little Ant and Dec, Judy and Richard Madely’s daughter, Tim Heeley, Liam from Big Brother etc etc, it was a great day, anyhow we are now split into 2 groups and the winners from each group one on the 17th April one on the 10th April will go to the final on the 24th April where there will be more celebrities and industry people etc, I just hope I have fun wish me luck. I’ve also been asked to sing regularly in a restaurant and hotel where we live the owner has asked me loads of times, and I can earn money, I might do it will be good practice performing live, I’m also acting out blood brothers my liverpudlian accent is so good I’m teaching everyone else, and I got accepted to college!! Pheeeew

Once again another hard week in trying to find work within the music business, even getting that foot in the door. However saying that I‘ve thoroughly enjoyed my practices this week in the band which I’m in (accept I have to drive about an hour and half to get there every week. Now that’s commitment). I’m not really complaining as I do love it, I suppose certain sacrifices you have to make and if it means I have to drive a little bit out of my way then that’s fine, at least I get to do something that I enjoy.
The other part of this week I have been concentrating on my own music. I thought it was about time to write a couple more songs, and so that is exactly what I did.

Even though once again I have searched more wonderful careers in this field and not much has come out of my hours of research, I have found that writing my music again extremely therapeutic. I know that might come across a little cheesy. It’s true though, I feel so much better for getting some new material down.

Anyway another week ahead of more research and hopefully some more composing!

Have a great week and thanks for reading.

Well here is the latest from my slightly mad and obscure world! Just back from 5 days in Switzerland on a climbing trip were we were walking in temperatures up to minus 15 degrees… Slightly chilly as you can imagine.

So the purpose of this slightly insane adventure?! Leadership. I was away with the other 7 guys on the Hunter Leadership Programme and the incredible quadriplegic mountaineer Jamie Andrew.

Jamie really is an inspiration to us all. Rather than giving up and believing his life was over, Jamie fought back and is now more active than ever before – climbing, running marathons and completing Iron Man Challenges to name a few.

I took a lot from our trip – there were times when our adventures had to be postponed due to bad weather setting in (minus 15, 40in of snow, howling gales…hardly ideal) and plenty of moments where I wanted to give up but seeing Jamie overcome adversity was pretty awe inspiring.

I also tried a Via Ferrata for the first time – for those of you not in the know about climbing, it’s basically a cliff which crazy people drill large staples of metal into and off you go climbing it with a rope and harness. I can honestly say it was one of the most frightening experiences of my life. Even though you know that you are safely harnessed in, at that sort of height it’s difficult to trust the equipment with your life. Quite literally. Not something I will be repeating in a hurry.

Other than the odd death defying situation in Switzerland it’s been business as usual – the end of the financial year’s just passed so it’s been back and forward to the accountants!

Keep working hard until next time.

Again another week gone and it has been a busy one. This week I have been concentrating on trying to find out how to publish my music (on paper). Its hard as from the research that I have done so far you need to have at least a basic understanding of music theory and how to write it in order to get it down on paper. I have written music before but that is one of my challenges theory! It’s hard work and it has never been my strong point. Whilst looking into publishing music even though you can find software to help you an understanding of how to write music is important. So I’m still looking into that at the moment.

This weekend has been great as I have been away at a youth even where I helped with the music side of things. It was all voluntary (was to do with the Salvation Army). Anyway It was great as this weekend when I was teaching some songs I did not use any instrumentation. Everyone felt quite vulnerable at the beginning as they can hide away behind the sound of instruments. But I wanted the youth to see that voices can blend well without the help of an instrument and I find that the message that you are singing comes across more clearly and you are more focused as there is nothing to distract you. Part of the weekend for me was to get the youth thinking about music differently, but most of all to concentrate on the lyrical content. I think I managed to achieve as everyone was very focused.

It was a fun and fulfilling weekend, and being able to share what I can do with music with others is a huge high. I believe if we have a talent to share it with others and not just keep it for ourselves.

Have a great week, and thanks for reading.

This past week has been rather challenging in the sense that I have been so busy with normal day to day life that on the music front not much has been done. Its scary how time flies and all of a sudden a week goes by without you realising.

As for hearing back on vacancies I have applied to once again it’s the same old story, I’ve had no feedback. This has been quite disheartening. It’s an emotion that I seem to go through on a regular basis, and at the same time I am trying to not let it get at me.

So this week my aim is to try and find something positive, and to try and not let these situations get me down. In a way they only make me want to strive for more!

Have a great Week. Thanks for reading.

This week has yet again been solid practicing for the gig that I had on Friday I had my gig at High Barn. I thought the performance I gave went well. Of course I am my own worst critic and I know I could have done better but the audience seemed to enjoy it which is the most important thing! I had a band backing me, all who are amazing musicians you can find them on www.myspace.com/beanstalkstu and www.myspace.com/blacktopharrison. Please check these guys out as they really are good, I am very lucky to know people who are willing to help me.

On the evening of the gig though after I had performed the two guys that were after me blew my mind away. They were very professional and the way in which they could control their voices, they were simply outstanding and in a completely different league. It put some things into perspective for me and me want to be even better. It’s a good thing I think to try and strive for. Not being like these guys I saw but believing in yourself. That evening was definitely fun but also very thought provoking for myself.

Then I had received an e-mail finally from a vacancy I had applied too a couple of weeks ago. It was for the R&B Lyricist, I’ve been asked to send in a song for a girl group and it will be considered for their first single. So we shall see what happens with that, my music might not be what they are necessarily looking for, but who knows right, you never know unless you try.

Have a great week.

Thanks for reading

This week has been literally filled with band rehearsals and feeling nervous as my gig is coming up next Friday. So practicing has been my main priority this week.
Finally I have finished recording my E.P. I’m just getting all the labels sorted. Boring as that might seem, it’s been hard work getting the covers designed and it’s been a rush to get the labels done.

I have heard back from one of the places that I sent my CV too which was prudence and rocket pr. It was a no thank you, which is ok as the position was for a national plugger and I have no experience in that area but I thought why not give it a go.
But hey, keep trying right!
Happy Easter and thanks for reading.
Well, first up I’ve been on a Leadership Course with Sir Tom Hunter up in Scotland for the last 7 months and I had to keep it uber quiet until the official Press Launch in February. Which trust me was difficult, when you are disappearing to foreign lands on a regular basis, people tend to ask questions…

The Hunter Leadership Programme aims to take the best of Scotland’s young people and
create the future leaders of our country – whether its in sport, business, politics, media and beyond. I’ve possibly had the best 7 months of my life: worked in New York City BABY at the Clinton Global Initiative, spent time at the Clinton-Hunter Development Initiative in Malawi, Africa in October, worked alongside BBC Children in Need in January and have even had the opportunity to try some offroad Land Rover Driving… Varied, I know.

It’s been the most enjoyable 7 months, but at the same time it’s been incredibly hectic. Thanks to the support of Mum and Dad, Caledonian Gifts is still going whilst I complete my scholarship and whenever I am at home, it’s back to business. I wouldn’t have it any other way though; I’ve worked exceptionally hard but had the best experiences and met some of the current world’s greatest leaders. It’s really raised the bar for me and I no longer want to run a small business… I want to see my baby go global!!!

So what’s next? Home for a week (yay) then off to climb the Swiss Alps with the Hunter Scholars and Jamie Andrew who should be an inspiration to us all. Jamie lost both his hands and feet to Frostbite after a climbing accident in 2000. He was minutes away from death and could have given up on life but fought on and was back on the road to recovery within 6 months. Jamie’s zest for life never fails to amaze me and he also manages to handle 3 children all under the age of 4! I’ll keep everyone updated on my trip and meanwhile, keep working hard!
