Tips on becoming a top Pilot

  1. There are many different types of aircraft that you can pilot so before you start any training you need to research what type of aircraft you want to fly.
  2. Flight simulators are popping up all over the place and can be a great way of getting a feel for what being a pilot is like. You can find these at some funfairs and at special open days that the countries forces do.
  3. Talking to a pilot can be a great insight so if you are going on a commercial flight or if you are attending an Air Day always ask if you can speak to a pilot.
  4. If you are unsure on what you need to do to become a pilot write to the people that you want to work for like if you want to fly a commercial plane for an airline ring them or write to them and ask what you need to do to become a pilot.
  5. A good cheap way of getting some in plane experience is by joining your nearest Air Training Core or ATC as they are referred to. In many of these they will take you on small craft flying lessons and have a week every year where they go and live on an air base which can be a great insight.
  6. If you want to become a fighter pilot you need to apply for the RAF. Go to your nearest services recruitment centre and find out how and when you can join.
  7. Flying lessons if paying out of your own pocket can be very expensive this is why the ATC is a good cost effective way of doing it but there are any many companies that will provide you with training.
  8. Whether you are flying for an airline or the services being a pilot is a very stressful job and can see you being away for long periods so you have to be ready to put your life on hold.
  9. To reach qualified levels you will need to have put in a lot of flying hours and in some cases take exams so be prepared.
